So Many Splintered Parts

Assembly of Elephants and All Forms Considered are thrilled to be the second show in Queensland Theatre’s Door 3 program, opening 9 August 2025.

Shaun and I have worked together on different shows for years – and we’ve tossed ideas backwards and forwards during that time.

Shaun’s very familiar with the anthology model – me, not so much. But when we started talking about Door 3, that idea came up again.

What needs to be said – or asked – right now? It seemed that a gathering of voices, different voices, different writers, could speak to the mountains we have to climb.  And each writer had a finite time to focus their thoughts and laser in, show us the thing that woke them in that hour before dawn, the devil’s hour, the night watch, the hour the dogs start barking at all the night-time things coming home to rest, under the house.

Okay, that’s me getting melodramatic but you get the gist.

What do we see when we look out?  And around?

And what do we look like to the rest of the world?

So, we gave 7 writers a provocation and told them: 8 minutes. 2 actors. No essential set piece you can’t provide yourself and that can’t be got on and off stage in under 10 seconds. Write whatever you want but respond to the provocation.  They did. First drafts are absolutely terrific.

Thank you, Shaun Charles, Robert Forster, Kathryn Marquet, Aidan Rowlingson, Sita Walker, Grace Wilson.

So now we do it.
